You have undoubtedly encountered the term eyebrow embroidery in the past several years without knowing what it meant.
Let’s be honest, the terminology associated with Permanent Makeup (PMU) is inconsistent. There is uncertainty around an eyebrow tattoo and whether it is equivalent to permanent cosmetics. Then there are procedures that have been around long enough for the general public to be familiar with them, such as microblading and powder ombre brows.
Let’s attempt to clarify the situation. By reading on, find out what eyebrow embroidery is, how it’s performed, and whether it’s the same as microblading.
What is Eyebrow Embroidery?
Eyebrow embroidery is a permanent method for filling in your brows, adding volume, and altering the arch form to complement your face.
It is a micropigmentation in which pigments are injected into the skin to improve appearance. The densifying effect is accomplished by drawing on additional brow hairs between the original ones and along the natural arch’s boundaries. Or, if no brow hairs are due owing to a condition such as postpartum hair loss, the arch is built from scratch.
The goal is to give your brows a look so subtle and natural that no one can tell that you’ve had work done, but you won’t require more eyebrow makeup.
How Does it Work?
Eyebrow embroidery is conducted by trained PMU technicians or artists with the appropriate credentials. It is a manual method; thus, no tattoo machine is used.
Instead, the artist utilises a hand instrument with a super-fine blade composed of several needles to create pigment-filled hair-shaped wounds. Pigments are implanted into the dermis layer of the skin, where they may remain for months or even years.
The pigments used in eyebrow embroidery are formulated specifically for permanent cosmetics and are intended to dissolve over time, distinguishing them from conventional eyebrow tattoos. In addition, they are custom-blended to match your natural hair colour as precisely as possible.
Permanent makeup’s accuracy and definition cannot be obtained with any other brow makeup product, which is one of its greatest advantages.
Is Eyebrow Embroidery the Same as Microblading?
Yes, eyebrow embroidery is only a nicer term for microblading. Other words for the same or a very similar approach are:
- 3D brows
- 3D embroidery of the brows
- Microstrokes
- Microfeathering (the same method, but follows a fluffier pattern) (the same technique, but follows a fluffier pattern)
- Fluffy brows (same as above)
- Blended brows (a bit of microshading is added to the microblading)
- Hybrid brows (same as above)
- 6D brows (again, microshading is added, but 2 shades of pigment are used)
In addition, many artists establish their own distinctive stroke patterns and decide to trademark them and rename the technique. Don’t be shocked if you see microblading under various names.
How Long Will it Last?
When we claim that eyebrow embroidery is a permanent brow augmentation, we do not imply that it is permanent for the rest of your life.
The benefits are pretty durable, lasting between 12 and 18 months. Since the injected pigments are not tattoo ink but rather pigments developed for cosmetic tattooing, they are progressively broken down by the body and fade over time.
This is a positive thing. It implies that you can change the form of your eyebrows every year or two instead of being trapped with the same shape forever. The fact that eyebrow embroidery fades lets us alter and improve our brow game as we age and as fashion trends shift.
